Remaining
sophomore games this season are canceled
Please make note that after a
discussion with Coach Kinnune, all remaining
sophomore games this season are canceled. It has
been a great run and our sophomore team had an
excellent first season!
Due to logistics and injuries and the overall goal
of the Mt Si Wildcat Football program, this coming
Thursday 10/13 sophomore game against Mercer Island
has been canceled.
Mt Si comes up short
after a hard fought game against Skyline 20-16
After a see saw first couple of series where the
Spartans recover an early fumble and then Mt Si stops
them deep and takes over on downs, Skyline puts 6 plus a
2 point conversion on the board after repeated quarter
back draw plays. In the 2nd quarter, Mt Si rallies after
some successful passes and short yardage gains and
ultimately a touchdown hook-up between QB Jo Jo Hillel
and WR Trevor Daniels. Mt Si answers the call and equals
the score 8-8 on a 2-pt conversion toss to Bailey
Takacs. That’s where the score would stay through the
end of the 1st half after the Mt Si rock solid defensive
effort lead by impressive extra effort by Adam Husa and
the rest of the Wildcat Defense.
In the 2nd half, Spartans had the ball first. They drove
the ball hard into Wildcat territory and the Mt Si
defense held strong but not strong enough to prevent
another Skyline TD. Defense did hold them to no extra
point making the score 14-8 in the 3rd. On the Wildcat’s
next possession, they went 4 and out and turned the ball
over on downs. The Spartans continued with their own set
of impressive plays from QB #16 who ran the ball yet
again repeatedly to put another 6 points on the score
board. Mt Si’s defense though stopped their 2 –pt
conversion and the score was now 20-8 just at the start
of the 4th quarter.
During the 4th QB Hillel completed passes to Jordan
Chapman for some decent gains and Jordan also picked up
some good yards on some runs. The Wildcats drove the
ball down to the goal line when QB Hillel was injured.
Back up QB Bailey Takacs stepped up and ran the sneaker
in for a Wildcat touch down and completed a 2–pt
conversion to bring the Wildcats within 4, 20-16. On the
Spartans next possession after the kick-off, Wildcats
cause a fumble giving the Mt Si an opportunity near the
end of the game to take the lead but would fall short
after an interception on a pass attempt to Trevor
Daniels.
Final score Skyline Spartans 20 Mt Si Wildcats 16 in
this hard fought never give up sophomore battle!

SOPHOMORE TEAM GAME CANCELED THIS WEEK vs INGLEMOOR
This Thursday’s
sophomore team game vs. Inglemoor has been canceled.
Coach Kinnune and the coaching staff met this
weekend to discuss player availability, injuries,
team compositions, and depth charts. Coach Kinnune
felt that due to the number of injuries and the lack
of depth at critical positions that it was necessary
to cancel this week’s game.
The decision of whether
to play ALL sub-varsity games (JV and sophomores)
happens every week and will continue for the
remainder of the season. It is common for JV/Soph
games to get canceled due to critical injuries or
players becoming ineligible, thus making it
impossible to field a team. In last night’s JV game,
several players left the game with injuries, which
could affect the sophomore team. So in some
instances, the decision to cancel a game could be
made at the last second. We will work hard to
communicate this information as soon as a decision
is made our coaching staff or by our opponent.
Thanks for your support
and patience. Go Wildcats.
Sophomore's Drop One to Eastlake 42-7:
Eastlake’s larger and more dominant team defeated Mt Si
42-7. Mt Si never gave up and showed promise throughout
the game with impressive 1st down runs by #27
Bailey Takacs and #28 Jordan Chapman and a touchdown
pass hook up from # 10 Jojo Hillel to #21 Trevor Daniels
for 6. Unfortunately that was the most Mt. Si could
manage to put on the scoreboard. Despite a few injuries,
our sophomores never backed down and fought hard to the
finish. Late in the 3rd quarter, QB #10 Jojo
Hillel was injured and running back/back up quarterback
#27 Bailey Takacs filled his shoes for the remainder of
the game. The team continued to drive the ball where
they could but ultimately fell to the Eastlake team.

MOUNT SI FOOTBALL
- New “Sophomore” TeamMount Si
Football is pleased to announce that for the first time
in program history, it will field four high school
football teams: a Varsity, Junior Varsity, Sophomore and
a Freshman team. Coaches Brad Rorem and Brian Tawney
will coach the JV games on Monday evenings. Coaches
Gerry Maher and Steve Botulinski will coach the
sophomore games on Thursday evenings.Despite
Mount Si being classified as a 3A program, there were a
record 122 players turning out for football this fall.
This number is comparable to many 4A programs within the
KingCo Conference like Skyline, Eastlake, Bothell, &
Inglemoor. Because of this high turnout, the decision
was made to move to a four team format. This will
provide increased playing time for more of our athletes,
better enabling us to do two things that are essential
to building an elite program: retain and fully
develop our players. Teams win with seniors. The
more older, fully developed players that are in the
program, the better the program’s performance.Depth
Charts and team rosters will be developed by the
coaching staff and will remain a fluid process over the
course of the season from week to week. It is expected
that some players will rotate up and down between teams
and some will play on multiple teams. Some players may
play a limited special team role on a higher team and
then play a starting team role on the next level team.
Players will be made aware of their roles and the
team(s) that they can expect to play on each week.
Despite the names of the teams, the Varsity, JV and
Sophomore teams are viewed as 3 progressive levels of
play. There will likely be freshman and juniors playing
on the sophomore team, just as there will be
underclassmen on the JV and Varsity teams. Many
factors go into developing depth charts: including
athletic ability, work ethic, player’s attitude, the
number of players playing a position, the numbers of
upper classmen at a position, practice performance and
game performance. Depth
charts and rosters feed from the “top down”. Players are
allotted 4 quarters of playing time during any two day
period and a maximum of 8 quarters during any week as
defined by the WIAA. A quarter of play is defined as “more
than one (1) play, excluding special teams”. A
player could play in a few plays on Friday/Saturday
night and still participate in the JV game on Monday. A
player could play in a few JV plays on Monday and still
play on Thursday night. Any player participating on
Thursday night will not dress on Friday nights, so as to
avoid any potential illegal participation.We
are excited to be able to offer more playing
opportunities for our athletes. As with any new
endeavor, you can expect that there will be growing
pains as we learn to operate at this new level of
participation. Please bear with us and understand that
we are pursuing these options with the best of
intentions: greater participation, more playing time and
increased enjoyment. Thanks for your support and GO
WILDCATS!!!
